Wildlife Viewing Along Public Roads

Nearly 70 percent of the Grasslands Wetlands are in private ownership. Public roads bisect these wetlands and provide visitors with excellent views of habitat diversity and wildlife. For the best viewing opportunities, follow the tour route outlined in red.

Interpretive foot trails, vehicle tours and informational displays with printed material and maps are provided at the Los Banos Wildlife Area and Merced and San Luis National Wildlife Refuges. Kesterson National Wildlife Refuge is primitive, with no amenities, and only open to foot traffic. Canoeing opportunity can be accessed through the Salt Slough Wildlife Area.
